Replacing Clutch and Slave/master cylinders.

Hello all,

So basically as we all know the ford master and slave cylinders are made out of crappy composite...I replaced my whole system in 2004 and it just went out again. The clutch went to the floor and I lost all pressure. I checked my fluid and found it to be leaking out of the transmission housing.

Anyhow, I am going to buy the replacement parts myself. I have been reading on clutches and I am sure I can decide on one, but I cant find a good website with a good selection of after market master and slave cylinder brands.... does anyone know if they make an actual FULL METAL master/slave cylinder for the ranger? Mine is a 1999 2wd 4banger with over 200k miles on it.. I do not want to get something new right now I just want to rebuild this one a bit and THIS time I want to use the best parts I can get to avoid this mess for another 100k hopefully.

Any suggestions on the best master and slave combo? I wish ford would build these freaking things a little tougher and mount them on the outside of the tranny. would be nice.

Thanks! :icon_welder:

Stick with the motorcraft. They put 'em in there to get them out of harms way, and to minimize the number of moving parts. Less moving parts means less potential points of failure.

motorcraft r junk compared to the new perfection slave clynders.

Not saying you're wrong, but....

I hear this a lot, about a lot of aftermarket slaves (among other things) so far i've yet to see consistant, repeated, long term success of an aftermarket unit in comparison to motorcraft. There's always the guy that has had brand x in his truck for 20 years without problems, and the guy that put 4 factory units in his truck in less than a year but these seem to be anomolies.

Are you running a perfection? How many miles do you have on it?

Im just saying what everyone says last the longest. I personally have a perfection slave and clutch that been on for 3000 mi and doing just fine.
