Just picked up a 88 Ranger LB 2.9 4wd auto. I would like to ditch the annoying floor shifter. Change to column shifter
found on early 90's Rangers. Can it be done with steering column swap and linkage?

Thank You

It would probably require a full dash swap, but it can be done.

I thought about doing this in an 83-88 model Ranger. I found a Ford car from tat era at a junk yard. I think it was a Crown Vic. It seemed to have the same steering column insides and had a nice chrome shifter and chrome washer and signal levers.

It can be done - I'm fairly sure the Gen 2 column itself will bolt up to a gen 1 dash. But, the trim and steering wheel are different. I'm not sure any of the column switches are wired the same. The Gen 2 shift indicator is in the gauge cluster so you'd have to swap the whole dash if you care about that. As Mike said it may be easier to modify a car steering column for use with a gen 2 shifter cable rather than a full on dash swap.
