Side actually. I used to be a nail banging carpenter in my younger days. It is all in the wrist. My best hammer is a 2 lb ball peen hammer. When the handle broke from my misuse, the shortened hammer worked even better. I use a sledge hammer and a 2 foot length of 5/8 all thread as a drift to pop the tie rod ends on my 528es .
A pro shop uses an air chisel with a flat head. Ratatat ! :D
