I'm thinking about swapping an ext cab on my regular cab shortbed. What I wanted to know is how much longer are they? I checked the tech library but didn't find anything

I think they're around 16" longer.

If you do this, take measurements and LOTS of pictures of what you had to do to get it fit right.

Whether or not someone else ever does it, it's still good information to have available.

My guess is that you'll have to trim out the back side of the cab for the frame rails to fit, and then fab up your own mounting brackets so that they sit lower and further back than stock.

Have you looked into some of those things so that you understand the undertaking?

(I'm totally for it, so let me know!)

the issue isn't so much the length (which is 17") as it is the profile of the frame.

Which is what I'm hoping he's already contemplated. I sure hope he has.

What are you going to do about the bed?

The ex cab trucks were all short beds and still had the longest wheelbase by almost 10 inches.

this has been done. Look up Kyle M.'s build. He put an ex cab on a regular frame.

Yes, but Kyle is also running without a bed on his current truck. He has fabbed up bed sides that he can put on to look legal.

Which still begs my original question to the OP, whatcha gonna do about the bed?

Chop, bob, cut and reweld? It's not rocket science.

Not saying it is. Just making sure that he realizes he is trying to put the longest Ranger body combo on the shortest frame.

I thought about either entending the frame do I can have a normal size bed or make a flat bed

I assume that it would be easy but would I put metal on the outside the frame and reweld or put some inside the frame too?
