Im now on day 3 trying to reconnect the transmission, I can not get it on the two pins. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to get the transmission on the two pins? this is started to get my very:pissedoff:

Wanna tell us what kind of trans you have? There are different methods for auto and manual.

Yep, knowing the transmission is helpful.

I found out the hard way that if the clutch is not aligned right on a manual trans, you WILL have a ton of headaches.

Now that I have more experience with it all, I've still had some that I knew were lined up right but wouldn't just slide on. I've taken the King Kong approach before when I got frustrated that it started on then would hang up and just shook and shoved the **** out of it until I could get the bolts started and draw it on the rest of the way. Just don't drop it on yourself if you do that, lol.

But getting it lined up right is key for both auto and manual. Don't try to force it until you're absolutely sure.

Sorry guy I keep forgetting to add that, Its a automatic 5r55e

I use a couple pieces of "all thread" threaded into two of the lower holes of the block. It's easy to get the transmission to start onto these studs. Use can use a nut to tighten the transmission to the block then. Don't overtighten if things get into a bind... it means something is wrong and you may crack the case if you try to tighten it too hard.

You may have to double nut the all thread to screw them into the block and remove them.

5.0's idea is a good one. Autos are just a pain to get in and out. It's the one place that I think a transaxle makes things easier.

Just remember, don't put the converter nuts on until you have at least two bell bolts tight opposite of each other.

make absolutely sure the converter is stabbed all the way i believe three different "bumps" on the install as you are messaging the converter into its home. (before tranny goes up into the tunnel)

is this a replacement transmission? make sure there aren't 2 sets of dowell pins trying to ram into each other.

the torque converter has to be fully seated on the transmission before you install the trans to the engine, don't bolt the torque converter to the engine first.

other than that its very easy to line it up and push it in

Yup, 3 bumps.

I put the torque converter on the transmission and spun it in until i heard 3 clunks, i just cant get the transmission on the 2 pins, I'm going to try again when i get off of work today.

make sure the torque converter studs are lined up with the holes on the flexplate of the motor, i had the same problem and it turns out they werent lined up so the trans wouldnt come any farther forward. but this was on a 1979 bronco with a big block so i am not sure if its the same set up with a ranger or not but it should be, or at least similar

DO NOT use the bolts to suck the transmission up to the motor, aligning is fine but if it doesn't slide up then something is not aligned correctly and you can trash the transmission and or torque converter!

you might be right because there are 4 studs coming off the torque converter and it might be hitting the flex plate. ill take a look at it when i get home
