I bit the bullet and decided to rebuild the second motor before i drop it in. The current motor is ticking like hell with low oil pressure but i think that it will hold out during the rebuild.

In pulling the replacement apart to check the condition i found 2 bent push rods, and a little slack in all of the rod bearings. The slack was very minimal but figured i should go ahead and do it all any ways.

I have the block tore down and am sending it to the machine shop for a bath and check up. The heads will also take that trip as well.

Any way to tell if the crank should be sent in as well by looking at the bearings ect? the mains seem to be in good shape as far as i can tell and the pistons see to fit in the cylinders as they should there is no scaring on the clys either. minor wear on the pistons on two sides but the other two sides still have all of the factory lines around them all are worn in the same manner.

Here are some images of my crank and bearings main and rod. can any one tell from these if the crank will need turned or it is probably still within spec.

Looks nice, but only a micrometer will tell.

Also, looks like you're missing some babbitt on those shells.

there is def some wear on all of them. it all seems to be where they meet on the crank. some worse than others.

Looks pretty worn out. U can always plastic gauge them to give u an idea on how bad. I good thing u decided to do a rebuild.

ok, the mains "appear" to be fine. The rods look like shit. You shouldn't see the copper. look at the bottom right rod bearing, see how copper is showing in the center but not on the sides??? that means the rods are out of round. the others probably looked like that at some point too but are wore beyond seeing it. You need to have the rods reconditioned. you should also have the crank checked out, for a few extra dollars it is worth your time, especially because of the extensive wear on the rod bearings.

If you have any other questions PM me, i would be happy to help. (I build engines for a living so i have a little experience in this sort of thing.)
