Rear speakers for standard cab

You can get a set of component speakers and a small amp, that you can stow away anywhere for cheaper than those Poineer full ranges. Just takes a little searching. You'll be able to mount the tweeters so you get crisp clear sound, and the mids will give you plenty of bass if you don't want to run a sub. And you could keep your stock deck and have the option of upgrading it in the future without making your other purchases obsolete or unusable. You really might as well not even run rear speakers, especially with a set of components.

You can get the Full ranges for a decent price on sonic electronics too, and they actually sound better IMO, having tried multiple component speakers, the full ranges definately kick the components butt... Obviously not the expensive high quiality components probably but in similar price ranges the full ranges are way better, not to mention you don't have to go through trying to find the proper mounting place for the crossover and drill a hole for the tweeters. Components aren't really that good unless you spend the money and get GOOD ones, and I mean high quality ones that you can tune and stuff. A good set of full range speakers are better but stick to 2 ways none of that 4 way stuff.

sorry bro, i understand your trying to help out. but a BOSS amp??

those things arent even worth the scrap metal. they are absolute garbage.

i dont care what other people have thought, boss, lanzar, jensen, sony, pyle, pyramid, sound storm, dual, any of those knock off brands are absolutely crap.

anyway. the o.p wont see the biggest difference in his sound quality without getting a better rado first.

i dont care what everyone else says, yes the sound will be more accurate with better speakers, but your just fooling yourself. the factory unit will never produce a clean crisp sound.

so if the O.P wants good bass, and clear sound. a new headunit and some nice 6x8's will be all you need up front.

Actually I found that speakers while not the first thing on my mind either do give a good improvement over the stock speakers even with the stock radio. Because they are better quality and with the tweeter designed to seperate the mids highs and lows better. a stock speaker gives good bass but lacks in the high range. So with upgraded speakers your gonna hear a difference up top. Obviously you should change your deck too because it will give you alot better sound because they can read and polish up the audio off of discs and mp3 not to mention you can adjust differe EQ's and stuff.

Any opinions on these?

They seem to be the in-between models. Hopefully they would plug right in with no wire hacking needed.

I'll probably upgrade my head unit later. Not enough coin in the till for both.

I have a basic truck with roll up windows. How fun is it to remove the door panels?

These are 15$ more and you will love the difference! (mostly cause with the 4 way you have 2 little tweeters that are getting all the same frequencies as the big one and the woofer, with one bigger tweeter it can handle those sounds better.) My opinion is don't skimp on stuff, you can get cheaper speakers you like but save up and get the ones you WANT and you'll be way happier.

As for the door panels if they are anything like my 99's (almost positive they are.) you remover 2 screws from the black handle piece, take off that remove the other screws and theres one or two at the bottom then just the handle which is a torques bit, pop off the outer cover and take off the handle and pull up and out on the panel... takes about 30 seconds once you know what to do. :icon_thumby:

johnr66- I don't know how much work you wanna do, but I have an Alpine Flex 2/1 channel amp... you'll have to run speaker wires for it and RCAs from your deck (I'm not positive the stock deck will have RCA output...) but as long as your putting new speakers in it shouldn't be too much more work. It works fine, I just got a new one that has a bit more juice. I found a spec for 90 watts max/ each channel, or 240 bridged and as for the RMS output, 40 watts each channel. I also have 4 Infinity 6x8s (2 way), I'm not sure what model or anything. All are in working condition. Cover the price of shipping and its all yours. They will just be going on craigslist otherwise, and I'd rather help you out then go that route. Shoot me a PM.

And maybe you'll be able to throw down for a head unit instead of spending the money for speakers and whatnot.

first id do the HU it will give you more options and you can control the speakers you have via the EQ and will produce a cleaner sound all around.

adding the two rear speakers will give you a fuller sound. that is worth the money. more so if you want to add an amp. amp 4 not 2

and get 2 way. comp or coax all matter of opinion:icon_thumby:

I bought these:

I live close to Parts Express and drove down to pick them up.

I installed them on Saturday. It was not too difficult to install them into the doors. I hated having to cut off the nice connectors Ford uses to splice in the ordinary slip on connectors though.

There is an improvement in sound. The Ford speaker has a wizzer cone that helps reproduce high frequencies, but the Pioneers have a true tweeter and that makes a difference. The highs are now crisp. I can hear the ticks of the drummers cymbals clear now. Bass is about the same. The Ford speakers aren't too bad there given the rigid cone and flexible surround. I'd say the bass is a little more tighter with the new speakers.

I will put the old speakers in the back since you folks say that the seats block the sound anyway, it doesn't make sense to put money back there. When I can afford a head unit, I can hook them up.
Thanks, John

it doesnt block the sound.

if you only had rear speakers do you think you wouldnt hear anything. :annoyed:

depending on were your seat sits in compaired to the speaker it will dull the highs out but it will put more mid in your truck and give it a fuller sound.

I didn't really mean the seats totally block the sound, I should have said that it didn't make sense to put the new speakers in the back since they have better performing highs, so the factories go back there.

Sorry Sooperxtool. The day you posted this, I didn't visit the thread and I bought the Pioneers. That's a good deal and someone should take you up on it.

Nope. Just empty speaker grills and no wiring run back there. The basic AM/FM stereo has no fader control so it was not even intended on having 4 speakers unless it is 2 Ohm stable. The factory speakers are 4 Ohm.
