Can a 1990-1992 Ford Ranger 8.8-Inch Axle be swapped under a 98 ranger as easily as one from 1998?
Wanting to use it because of its shorter 56.50 inch length so I can use larger tires/wheels

The 98 requires the sensor in the rear end housing for the speedo and abs. Don't think the early ones had it.08 and newer don't either

That's a negative. They absolutely do not have that sensor.

Are you saying the 98 doesn't have the sensor? My 99 did and it took me a while to find a rear end that did. I thought the 98-07 all had it.

@Tugg : You are correct, '98 has/needs sensor. So the '90-92 axle that OP was thing of installing has issue - it does not have hole to install sensor.
