My '85 has what I guess is the original dealers name that sold the truck new stamped into the bumper. I was just curious if this was a common thing for the time, because I haven't ever noticed it done on any other vehicles.

Only the Polish would do something like that.

Not sure of when as far as year(s), but I've seen it on vehicles before.:icon_surprised:

For many years trucks were shipped from the factory without a rear bumper. Dealers took advantage and sold rear bumpers to customers (especially in agricultural areas) where trucks were used to tow and sold customers step bumpers that had a built in hitch and just happened to stamp dealer name into the face of the bumper. This is similar to license plate frames, decals and emblems that had dealer names on them. Just another way for dealerships to get "free" marketing.

That isn't a stock bumper. It looks thinner, the shape is totally different, the light is different and the hitch part is thicker than mine.

I kind of agree the dealer ordered trucks without bumpers, had their name stamped in aftermarket ones and then installed them.

Buying a new truck I would be irate, restoring an old one it is kind of a cool bit of history of the truck.

I have never seen one like it before though.
