Security torx bits? I was ready to clean it with mass cleaner to
Arrrrg!

Unbolt the MAF housing from the airbox and your able to clean it that way. They make bits that you can use to remove those screws, I have some in my tool box.

Just what we did! Lots of blackish stuff came out with the sprayed liquid. can't imagine why security torx screws would be on a plastic flange on a sensor

The MAF is a very fragile part, very easy to damage or contaminate by touching it. Most people do not appreciate how truly sensitive it is, and so security bits were used to keep people from removing it from the housing and gaining direct access to the part that can be damaged by touching it.

Since the sensor and housing are serviced as an assembly and you can clean it in the housing there is no need for the end user to be able to take it out of the housing anyway.

I just cut a slot in the top with a dremel and used a screwdriver to remove it. Mine was very dirty

Update!

Apparently, cleaning the MAF does have positive results! that "rough idle, almost dies" condition seems to be fixed!

Good to hear. It helped my slight miss/roughness at idle, as well. Every little bit helps.
