I have a 99 4X4 xtend cab with the 4.0. 134K mi
I've always done oil changes at 4k and about the 70K mark I started doing the tranny fluid every other oil change or so.
So I just did it and now I have a clanky rattling sound while in gear (fwd & Rev).
I drained the pan and replaced the filter and added 3 qts of mercV and about 9-12 oz of lucas tranny fix. Which is the first Time I used it with a fluid change. I've always just added a little hear and there.
It shifts nice and feels pretty responsive, I'm just scared of that noise. I'm pretty sure It's coming from the tranny. I didn't have anyone put it in gear so I can go under it and pin point the sound yet.
I also did a oil change and added lucas leak stop to my engine oil. Could it be lifters banging around? But then again the noise is only when in gear?
