That is no Ranger, that is an Explorer :icon_twisted:

It is hard to get the jist of it with just pictures, I think you need to come down here and do mine so I can record it. Then I can post the video so others can see how to do it :icon_thumby:

Came out real nice...but that thing was rusting for a while...that big of a hole doesn't just magically happen in 2 years, it would have popped if it had stayed in alaska too. How long ago did you do that?

this^ but either way, that is a beautiful truck... i wish i still had my '79

That's wasn't really a hole yet, just where the paint popped off from the rust underneath. The last picture in the series is in front of my house in Fairbanks. It was April 1990 and I had just painted her with Dupont Diamond black lacquer & clearcoat. At that time there was no sign of rust. I moved to WA state in Dec of 94 and she still looked good. In 96 all the rock chips were rusted as well as the cab corners and wheel arches. I took her down to bare metal, used a metal conditioner, and painted her with base coat / clear coat. by 2005, the paint started popping off in chunks, and I found rust to again be the culprit. That winter I did the cutouts and repairs and used por 15 under the primer. She's holding up well, although the aluminum parts of the engine oxidize badly every winter. I still blame the de-icer. They didn't use it in Alaska because of the cold temps.
