Not the underbody kind, like a swing out style with the tailgate. Anyone ever did this? Pics if so.

I was checking some out in the JY, they look like they would bolt right on with some minor modifications.

or get that cool prerunner tire gate that replaces your tailgate! lol

I considered it, but I like being able to carry certain things in my bed. Plus I use the truck for storage in the winter since I don't drive it that time of year. And camping.. gotta love camping under a cap.

ohh gotcha.. my thing is just a real rear bumper w/ a swing out tire mount...
that's what i'm gonna build.

something like this

they are stronger than a body mounted type... and delete the risk of the flex and weight of the tire acting like leverage-- breaking up the body. so if you do a body mounted, reinforce it good..

That's actually pretty neat. I'm planning on building a rear bumper slightly like Destroyer000's in the first page of the bumper thread. Maybe I could incorporate that somehow. I'd just need to make it clear the tailgate and lights.

Im told with a b2 rear tire carrier, you dont want to put to big of a tire on them. But then again, nothing a bit of fabbing a beefing up cant fix to make it work.

A little bracing and they're fine. Most of the problem is you can actually rip the carrier out of the body.

I'm leaning towards a bumper carrier now, after thinking it through I really don't want to intentionally damage the 01 bed I'm going to be putting on my truck, not at the price I'll pay. Maybe if I got it for free..

I've been thinking about this too...especially since I had one tire go flat in the middle of a mud hole (in a junkyard, not while off roading)...getting that spare out would have required scuba gear and more tolerance for getting wet and dirty than I have ever had...

I actually ended up driving on the flat to a dry spot...which ruined a fairly expensive tire...and I still ended up covered in mud...

The ones on the BIIs are nice but I couldn't see how to attach it without serious mods...I like the looks of 4.0 B2s image...but I'd want it to swing down away from the tailgate so I could get stuff into the bed...hmmmm...maybe somehow linked in with the tailgate...or just use the tire support AS a tailgate...

I can feel the creative juices flowing...

The ones I looked at were off ZR2 Blazers. Mounted on the bed corner.

I think they mount the same way as the BII carriers, but the top mount looks higher.

I'll probably go with the bumper mount, so I don't stress out my cab. I'll just make it so the tailgate has a mount for it to hold it to the body, or make the hinged section have a lock to it.

HEY COOL IDEA. Padlock it, then nobody can drop my tailgate down and steal my shiznit!
