My dad has a 92 ranger 3.0 automatic. one day it started gushing fluid out of the front seal! had it towed home started and drove it into the garage pulled fine no problem. took it to a trans shop they replaced the front converter race (thats what they called it). said it was common. I also installed a NEW tourqe converter as recommended (filled the tourqe with 2.5 qts of fluid and made sure it set back 3 times while spinning) put it all back in with new trans filter. filled with fluid turned the key let it run for a few min and circulate the fluid. atleast I thought it was. the Pump isn't working!!! u can let it run forever and the fluid will never move off the stick or get warn u can take a line off the coller and nothing! anybody have any suggestions? Please no smart comments!!!

You have to run it down the road to warm it up. Letting it idle wont do it. Make sure it's full and run it 20 miles or so.

Either you don't understand the problem or you don't understand how an auto trans works.

No pump action means no fluid pressure. No fluid pressure means no transmission engagement.

That means no driving. Not 20 miles, not 20 feet.

Huey, dumb question, but did you have the drive rod seated?

Did the pump get cracked when you tightened up the bolts ? I saw you seated the TC 3 times but...

Your gonna need to pull the tranny and give it a thorough inspection. Two very important things when installing the tranny is never use the bolts to pull it into the engine and the torque converter should wiggle free in the flex plate until you tighten the nuts it actually sounds like a bell. I probably needs a new stator and gears if you installed it wrong?

Good point... I think I'll keep my mouth shut when I comes to tech questions. Ill stick to "hey how does my truck look?" threads. :)

no I didn't use the bolts to pull trans to engine I put it up there by hand and jack and got it as close as possible most of the way on the dowels then tightened it up while checking the toque converter bolt alignment. then put in crossmember. then the bolt of the converter just barely poked through the flexplate. so I put nut's on em and tightened em up.

ive put in plenty of trans before matter of fact ive done 4 this month. but this one is just being a pain. and getting on my last nerve. could the trans place have jacked something up by taking the pump out? the took it all out to change that converter race

It sounds like you installed it correct but I can pretty much guarantee the tranny shop will say it was your fault. How much did you pay them to repair the tranny? Hopefully they will be honest and make it right. If all you were doing was leaking oil out of the pump seal likely all it needed was a pump seal and possibly a bushing where the torque converter fits in the bell housing. It dont smell right to me did you pull the pan and put in a new filter? it is not that hard to replace the stator and gears be sure and use new gaskets I`m guessing around $150 for parts.

You can get all the part numbers here and has a good diagram for how it goes together.
