A work acquaintance is looking into buying a new truck. He was messing with the build tools on different mfgr websites and I noticed you can still spec a "Classic" version of the Ram 1500. They look just like the 4th gen to me. The 5th gen came out in 2019 I think and it seems weird that they're still selling the previous generation new in 2023. Are they sitting on a massive inventory of parts they need to sell off?

Probably.

Chevy and ford has done it in the past...the 04 "heritage" F150 comes to mind.

But yeah not for 4 years.

Last i knew the classic was the only way to get a regular cab

They are a fair bit cheaper than the current gen although they are getting more limited on options as time goes on.

The 2500+ are still based of that gen cab, basically just did a facelift and updated the interior to match the newer half tons.

Personally i thought the last gen was better looking inside and out.

We got a 2019 as a shop truck...its nice....but the few previous gen ones i test drove here and there i personally liked better.

I do like the newer interior. Exterior... I go back and forth.

Dodge built trucks, a Ram is a male sheep.

i pass on dodge/ram trucks. engine and trans are normally ok but the electrical is dodgy.

edited it to make that funny

I have an 06 dodge. Drivetrain is good. Body rusted pretty bad. And the tach is screwy. Not great fuel mileage with the 5.7 hemi. But overall I'm happy.

I have a 2018 half ton at work. Nice truck, has a ton of power, really comfortable. I am getting about 15-16mpg. Has the 5.7 engine. Only real complaints - gas tank isn't vented correctly and it sprays fuel out when the pump clicks off. Dealer & local repair shop couldn't figure it out and said it's really common, they suggested a $2200 new fuel tank that "might" fix it. Should be a recall.

Also the key and shifter drive me nuts... if you start the engine and let go of key, it'll snap back to Off and shut the truck off. That also causes hard starts... floods it or something. You have to carefully move it back to Run. Very annoying. If the key isn't in exactly the right position, it can't be removed in Park either... there is a very specific order of events to shut the truck off and remove the key.

The only major repair so far (currently at 70k) was cracked exhaust manifolds.

We had a 2009 half ton before that and other than being ass ugly it was pretty reliable. Really bad rust issues but the maintenance guys are driving it right now and it's probably got 250k+ on the original drivetrain.

Mine doesn’t do that, but it does require the driver door be shut to be in gear. If the door opens while in gear it will shift into park for you. It’s annoying when trying to connect to a trailer. I haven’t tested it but I hope it doesn’t do it at speed.

Oh yeah I forgot about that one. Mine will drive forward with the door open but not backwards. Sometimes I need to back up and watch where the tire is... hard to do with the door shut.

Ford builds cars, a Mustang is a wild horse.
The Mustang was actually named for the WW II fighter plane. Then they decided to use a horse emblem, Ford has always been Ford.
