I have searched and searched and cannot find a replacement rag joint. I even stopped by local shops and parts stores and they told me that it has been discontinued. Anywho I am in need of one like right now! Hahaha. Or can anyone tell me of a junkyard fix that will get rid of the rag joint completely?

Never mind guys found the part number in the tech library. But still if anyone has a good link to a junkyard fix to get rid of the rag joint. I'm all ears!

The rag joint is there so that it is easier to replace parts. Rather then the whole arm your only replacing the tie rod end. You don't want to get rid of it.

The rubber rag joint is not replacable you have to replace the whole section and it is not available anymore.
You have a couple of choices:
  • You can piece one together using the upper half of one from a late 90's Explorer and the lower half from an Aerostar. (Or it might be the other way around.) This will leave you with a steering section with two "u-joints" and no rubber. This is the cheaper option but is fairly labor intensive.
  • You can buy a Flaming River kit that replaces the rubber with two new joints. Rather expensive but much easier than option one.
I personally did the first option. I didn't get the pin set just right so my steering wheel is off center by a few degrees.
