quick trans questions

So I have been tinkering around trying to do some research for an impending project. I am trying to figure out if the M5od R2 trans is the same length as the R1 that is currently in my 88 ext cab ranger? which I believe is 29.25" from what I have found. And also is the output shaft the same spline count?

If so then I think I have found the trans I will use. I can find a few 98+ 4.2 M5odR2's for about 350-450 which should have the different shift tower

I thought fullsize trannies had 31 spline count

I think your correct. I keep mixing them up, keep forgetting if its 31 or 32....

I will make a few calls around to see if any local places have an M2 already pulled and can give me an overall length. It looks like I can get a new yoke that should fit with no issues.

If you can verify I would greatly appreciate it. I called the wrecking yard and this trans is from 03 F150 v6 2wd and its 31 spline and 31.5" long which is 2.25" longer than the M1 in my truck.

An m5od-r2 from a 95 f150 5L measured 30 inches, an m5od-r2 from an 02 f150 with a v6 measured 28 inches long.

Both trannies are 4x4.
