Quick rear main seal question

Is RTV supposed to be used when installing the rear main seal on this engine? The Felpro kit came with some but the instructions say that rtv isn't required on 177 CID engines because "gasket has tabs that fit into cavities".

I don't see any tabs on the new seal (which is identical to the one I just took out).

There was definitely rtv used on the previous seal install because I just spent some time cleaning it out of there.

The tabs are on the pan gasket not the seal. I usually put a little rtv in the space where the pan meets the block, just to be on the safe side.
