My Ranger's driver seat back must have broken springs. There is little support in the middle of your back and there are all kinds of strange things pushing at the back seat fabric.

I was going to see if I could swap the seat back from my passenger seat and then it occurred to me that I should just look for a good condition passenger seat in a scrap yard.

Is it possible to swap the seat backs or the entire seats? My driver's seat is manually adjusted with a large twist knob for adjusting seat bottom height/angle and the lever to adjust the recline on the seat bottom.

Swapping a passenger seat back to the driver's side won't work right. There are pieces on both the back rest and the bottom for the recline index, and the passenger seat will have them on the wrong side.

my local pikNpull has ant seats for $15 all day err'day. I would check at your local JunkYard to see what they charge. It would be less work and hassle than swapping backs. Just get them out of a newer truck.

I had thought about the recline gears and I hoped that they were on both sides for stability. Thought it was worth an ask before I started tearing things apart. Thanks!!

You would hope, but every seat that I have ever taken apart only had the teeth on one side.

My driver's seat has a manual lumbar support. looks like a spine and some ribs that support your lower back. The knob that controls the lumbar position spins freely, so the cable must be snapped. I think I am going to take the seat out and see what I can find out about what happened to the lumbar support. Will update this thread and post pictures. Would be great if my issues boiled down to a snapped cable.

Yea I second making a trip to your local yard, sometimes you can get lucky and find a super clean set of sets

I took off the cover. The lumbar support was held in with two “rods” that were welded to the frame top and bottom of the seat back. They had both snapped off. They were about as thick as a coat hanger.
I replaced them with some handcuff sized zip ties. It is a big improvement

I think I can say that the seat is fixed. I drove a few times and forgot it was broken

My truck has would I assume are air bladders for the lumbar support the driver's seat works real nice and it feels good but it's slowly sinks. I haven't gotten around to it but I really want to see if size super duty seats will fit. explorer seats which are basically identical to the ones in my truck are probably the most desired
