Quick Connect Fitting Replacement

Hey guys,

When replacing my fuel filter on my 2002 Ford Ranger, I noticed the quick connect fitting on the right side of the fuel filter was broken. It doesn't snap when push on, you just have to push it as far as possible and hope it doesn't come off.

It is this kind of fitting:

How would I go about fixing this? Is there a certain piece of information I can see that shows me how?

If I get what your saying you just need to get new clips. Sometimes they come with the new filter. they are usually in the HELP section of the auto parts store.

If you are talking about the fittings they are also available at the parts store. Usually behind the counter.

If it's as simple as putting in a new colored clip, that'd be easy enough.

I'm just wondering if I had to replace the entire fitting, which I think I do, how would I go about doing that?

Yeah, that style is different from what Mazda is thinking of. The whole piece needs replaced.

You need a fitting tool to put the new one in the line. It's a major PITA otherwise.

Oh ok, not sure if I'm going to go purchase one just for this. I hope the labor cost to fix isn't too much !

my thoughts on specialty tools:

If you have to pay 20 bucks to buy the tool for a 5 dollar part but it makes the job a whole lot easier, buy the tool. even ifit just sits in your toolbox for the next 30 years, the time you save by spending that 20 bucks is well worth it. Case in point, my 5 dollar TFI wrench that I had to buy for my 87 Mercury. used it once, and it has been in my toolbox for the last 15 years. but it was worth it for the time factor.

I will even budget up to 100 bucks in tools depending on the project and what it would cost me otherwise.

Plus, that tool might be of use again in another car/ truck
