Question about D35 hybrid axle shafts

Since the d35 hybrid uses d28 guts, does the it use d28 axle shafts or d35 axle shafts or is it a special hybrid shaft. whats the shaft spline count on a d35 hybrid?

I typed up a reply to this yesterday that didn't seem to go for some reason...

Everything outside of the pumpkin is D35, the shafts neck down inside the pumpkin to go to the smaller spline for the D28 spiders, the outer shafts are the same regardless as are all 3 U joints

so the inner part of the shaft is 23 spline like a d28 and the outer shaft is 27 spline like a d35? am i understanding that correctly?. so can i use this type of shaft in my d28. i cant seem to find a axle shaft for a d28 anywhere and i dont have the money atm to upgrade to a d35.

No, the hybrid shafts are unique to the hybrid. They won't fit in an actual D28 because of the D35 parts mentioned being bigger.

You'll need actual D28 shafts if you're replacing a shaft in your D28 (I suggest don't bother, just save up for and get the whole D35).

Yeah, that, the axle bearings in the pumpkin are bigger on the D35 (and hybrid) and I don't think the bigger U joints will fit in the housing...

What's bad on your shafts? did you break one? If you find the right one I've found a D35 on Craigslist for $50 complete, other than the driveshaft being too long it's a weekend project at the most... if you were close I'd offer to do it at my house if you don't have the space... probably take 4 hours... and I have 50% of a D35 here

thanks guys. yeah i broke a shaft right at the ears. so since i couldnt find a shaft . i welded the ujoints to the broken shaft. and now i have 4x4 again. its only temporary until i get a d35

Did you happen to take pics of the weld job? It would be interesting to see how long the fix lasts.
