I have a 96 Ranger, and latly when I close my door, the light in my dash that says door ajar stays on all the time, causing my interior light to stay on all the time as well. My question is what part could be worn out causing the door ajar light to not go off. It also dings anytime my truck is turned off. Could it possibly be the door latch striker? Any info. appreciated. Thanks!

The light is only attached to the cabin light switch located inside the door. this has been discussed many times, and many solutions are available.

Essentially, the switch is stuck. It is located inside the door, attached to and just under the door latch mechanism. Spray the lock with WD40, open and close the door a few times. It may help for a short while, but the switch will eventually need to be replaced.

Replacing the switch can be a bitch sometimes but at least they are not expensive at all. Might as well look at the striker too. Dorman makes replacements and they are easy to replace.
