I've been shopping around for some spark plug wires, doing the usual brand research, only to find negative reviews for everything under the sun... Specifically poor build quality.

Does anyone have a brand they've purchased recently they would recommend? From what I've been reading, quality has decreased pretty rapidly in the last 2-3 years as countries of origin have changed....

At this point in time, I'm looking for a spiral core wire unless I'm given reason not to

To my knowledge, Motorcraft is a carbon core wire. I've been having longevity issues with the Motorcraft prompting my move to a spiral core

Do you have some kind of aftermarket ignition system?

Not at this time, they just have a shorter life span than the spiral wires. I've only been able to get 2-3 years out of a set of the Motorcraft, I assume they're breaking internally as I'll get discontinuity after a few years.

If it wasn't for that, I'd be more interested in the Motorcraft as they've had consistent quality. I was interested in AC Delco and Denso but I've been finding increasingly negative feedback, same thing for NGK.... I don't expect any performance difference out of the spiral wires, I'm just looking for some longer life

Never heard of anyone having issues with OEM plug wires so not sure what to tell you. Motorcraft wires are typically good for well over 100k miles. :dunno:

I'm relatively sure that after 130k and 10 years my truck still has its original motorcraft wires.

You must just be having bad luck. I'd try another motorcraft set, and if they fail way too soon again... IDK... Give up and buy a diesel.

Suppose you guys have convinced me then, I'll try my luck on another set of Motorcraft. Perhaps I just drew the short straw a few times

I've had good luck with Bosch. They appear to be made very much the same as OEM (so much so that I wonder if they were the ones making wires for Ford).

I use JBA (same as the exhaust company) spiral wound full metal wires in my Ranger (3.0) and my Mustang (4.0). The ones in the Ranger have been in it since like 2005. Changed plugs today, they are still good to go. Got the ones in the Stang from CARiD in November last year, week after I bought the car, along with the WeaponR CAI.

I'm still wrestling with the decision to replace my 15 year old original wires.

They've only 50K on 'em.

One consideration is damaging them when replacing my spark plugs. Might I break them when I disturb them?

If your spark plug wires brake when you touch them, you probably needed to replace them a long time ago. :c-n:

Actually, there's my answer. Thanks
I believe they were installed on the assembly line and never touched since. I foresee lots of twisting and pulling.
ERGO, it makes sense to just buy a set and install 'em when I do the plugs and KNOW they're good.
I can play with my 16 year old ones and an ohm meter at my leisure.
