Hey guys. I have a 1999 4x4 4.0 5 speed ranger that I recently bought. The 4x4 is not engaging properly and I want to try replacing the vacuum lines first. Does anyone know what size the hose/line is? Also will a leaking vacuum line leading to the hubs cause a slight miss? I have a slight miss or stumble that has me stumped. Thanks in advance!

I don't know, its been so long since I've had them on my truck. I'd go look at them and measure them for you, but they're not there anymore. So maybe you can do that yourself, since you have them still on your truck.

Any vacuum leak will cause problems. You can disconnect the hose going to "the little magic box behind the passenger headlight" and plug the motor side to see if there is in fact a leak in the hub control circuit that is causing your miss.

Let us know what you find out.

Thanks for the reply. I replaced the vacuum lines and so far it works flawlessly. It wouldn't shift into 4 hi or low, and now both go right in and out. Hopefully this resolves the issue. I also replaced the spark plugs, wires and air filter. At 80k, all the plugs on the drivers side were gapped around .075-.080. It runs so much better now and my 4x4 works.
