I'm yanking out the dead 2.3 with trans in my' 89 Ranger. I have a rebuilt engine and trans goping back in so I need nothing from this so I plan to yank it as one and save the grief. Any tips to pull it out as one? First off, will it clear the rad support and not have the tailhousing drag on the ground and get wedged? Will the bell housing pass by the engine mount isolators if left in place? Just looking to those who have done it and if it's a better plan on paper than it really is.

Thanks,

should just all slide out i just pulled my 3.0 w tranny just cranked to out slit the tail and then slid the truck back to get the rest of the tranny out

Ummm.............

Done it 3 times now, can be a PITA, but it's doable:beer:

Used to do it when cars all had big hoods. I haven't done it with a Ranger. Seems like a pretty steep lift and I use a chainfall and a beam in the barn ceiling these days, not a mobile hoist.

I happened to be going through a disk of old pictures earlier--this is from 2002 when I pulled my 4.0 for low oil pressure and a noisy valvetrain. I'm sure with a guy hanging on the tranny or one of those cool tilter thingys it could be done. It's a pretty deep dive though.
