Project Mudd Butt BII

did you get those D shackles from harbor freight? I think i got the same ones lol welded them up the same way :) PIMP bronco by the way :D it looks killer
:headbang:

88_Eddie, the thickness of the side plates is 3/8". Its over kill but its what I had to work with :D

1986FordRager, Its about 2" of body lift, I had to redo some of the body mounts in the back and I'm really not sure exactly how much body lift I have to be honest

elpoffroad, I bought the D Rings at a Orchlins or however you spell it, I didnt even think to look at Harbor Freight. Thanks for the compliment :icon_cheers:

No progress made on the the front bumper yet, but I almost have all the parts I need. The prerunner hoop came in the mail yesterday but I'm going to be stripping the drive line out of one of the Explorers tomorrow so I can scrap it and get rid of it so the bumper is going to have to wait.

i wouldnt say overkill, 1/4" would bend on the first bush you brushed up against, lol. i think 3/8" will be perfect

Ok so I made some progress yesterday. I got the front and rear axle out of my 91 Explorer and I will start on swaping them in sometime soon. I'm still gathering some parts to do the swap.

One question I have for you all that have done the 8.8" swap is where is the best place to get the bigger U-Bolts and the top piece to go with them? I have been looking around and think I have found some Currie U-Bolts? Should I just find the top mounting piece from a Ranger with an 8.8? Any advise would be great.

you can cut down the spring plates from the explorer, that's what i did. cut off the shock mount and trimmed down the edges.

you cant use the spring plate from a ranger, the ranger axle tube is different diameter than the explorer axle tube. the axle tube in an explorer is 3.25", so that's what size the spring plate needs to be. i'm getting some grade 8 ubolts from autozone with a 3.25" radius on them

^thanks for the help man. I don't know why I never thought to use the explorer bracket:D I have 3" blocks in the back that I forgot to mention I hope autozone has some long enough:icon_cheers: thanks

to answer your question some more though, you can use spring plates off of FW 8.8's. they are sprung over like b2's, but the axle tube diameters are the same.

here's the one's i plan on using, but i'm going to install extended shackles and some explorer springs for my rear lift. i should get 3-3.5" back there, so it'll sit level.

with a 3" block, i doubt they'd work for you. they're only 10" long. you could try an industrial supplier as well, grainger fastenal, etc.

sweet bronco!!! im susbscribed. the 4.0 power in the b2 with 3.73's and an M5od isnt that bad . the one bein built in my garage has that combo and is on 35's with no real issue's in the mud. rock's is another story. however i'm runnin a 4.0, M5OD, 3.55's and 37's and she's a lil doggy at time's but still pull's just fine.

Oh and when I was runnin the exp 8.8 (soon to be in the B2) I very carefully ground the spring plate's off my old axle fliped them to the top and burned them on. never had an issue. will need to grind the weld's flush and then start cuttin in with a cut off wheel.

Been getting a lot of work done on the Bronco lately. Started swapping out the stock axles for the Explorer axles. I started swapping in the 8.8 first. I got the new axles in and all welded up :icon_welder:

I ordered some shock mounts that wouldnt work with my shocks so I ordered a new pair of shock mounts and I still need to weld them on and figure out what I'm going to do with the rear drive shaft?

I have decided to go a different route with the front. I couldn't bring myself to spend $640 on the Duff Arms when it came down to it. So I got some 2"x.250" DOM tubing and some heim joints with tube inserts and I'm gonne build some extended RA's and a new crossmember:headbang:

Early next week I'm going to start swapping in the D35 and putting the manul Warn hubs in then I'll start on the RA's and crossmember:icon_cheers:

those shackles on the rear bumper are way too wimpy, do yourself a favor and get real D-ring shackles that are made for offroad

those shackles will pop like a zit the first time theyre used, might want to try something a bit more substantial.

Ok so its been forever since I have updated this but there has been a lot of progress made on Mudd Butt. I finally finished up the D35/home brew radius arms and crossmember up and the welded 8.8" explorer rear. :headbang:

Then I took it out wheeling again and I really liked the feel of the extended radius arm. It all around handles and rides better on and off the road plus more flex. I have some pics from the wheelin trip but I will have to post them up later.

Then I decided to get started on the front bumper :icon_welder:
Im planning on running a winch setup using a 2" reciver hitch so I can use it on the front or back. Also I did order a set of heavier weld-on D Rings for the front and rear bumper
