I'm leaking power steering fluid (somewhat) quickly. I have to fill up my power steering reservoir every couple of weeks because it gets low enough that I can hear the notorious sound when turning. I noticed some p/s fluid on the pitman arm, but I'm not sure where it came from. What are the typical culprits that cause leaks in the power steering fluid?

Thanks.

Good question, I have started experiencing the same thing in an 89 BII. Looks like its being slung out from behind the pulley where the shaft goes into the pump. It would be nice to replace that seal, but I bet I will have to replace the whole pump.

If it's on the pitman arm, most likely it's the sector shaft seal. Replace or rebuild the steering gear.

just had the same problem. had fluid all over the underneath side of my truck from the radiator back, including the skid plates.hosed everything off looking for the leak. no luck. repalced lines... still leaked. looked all aver again, no luck. finally replaced the pump and resevoir and that fixed it. my best guess is the seal between the pump and resevoir was failing. that as the heat and pressure built up while driving, if forced the fluid out that o-ring? anyway, new pump/resevoir assembly fixed it. btw, mine is a 1st gen.
good luck to you.
