Hello,
I'm trying to restore a 99 XLT with a full bed and currently have the bed off. On the passenger side of the bed, it looks like there were 2 heat shields that rusted off. Since the bed is removed, I was going to coat the underside with POR15. I have an order for the regular preventative coating, but is the bed close enough to the muffler that I should use the high temp stuff? And does anyone know if the high temp POR15 is as effective?

You don't need the high temp. That stuff is for applying directly to the heat source. If you wanted to paint the headers/manifolds or cat converter, use the high temp. Rest of the exhaust you might want to use the engine or caliper version. The bed and everything else will be fine with regular POR15.

Air isn't the best medium for heat transfer. Your floor boards and bed floor might get warm from exhaust, they won't be nearly as hot as the exhaust.

Super helpful! Thank you so much! I know it's tedious, but the more I thought about, I started thinking of where the high heat should stop, if there was a loss of protection, blah blah blah. Going to pickup my order with confidence. Thanks again!

Wear gloves and don't get POR15 on your skin, it's hard to get off.
