Hi all,

Well my Dad and I finally got my 84 running. With the help of a newly rebiult 2.3L out of an 81 Mustang.

The other day I switched the intake manifolds and carbs over from the 2BBL that was on it to the stock single barrell. Only becuase I didn't have the proper throttle cable and the intake manifold had a hole in it.

My truck starts and runs fine, but whenever I come up to a stop it stumbles and "putts" like it's gonna die.

Right now no emissions crap is hooked up becuase the "mechanic" that had rebiult the head on the original engine had cut and snipped all the vacuum hoses and such.

My Dad says it seems like there is a vacuum leak.

We blocked off the port for the EGR Valve on the stock carb.

Does anyone have any pointers on how I can fix all these "vacuum leaks."

My hunch is that it relates straight back to the carb. Becuase with the 2BBL it ran like a dream.

Thank You!

Someone on here suggested spraying quick start fluid (be careful because it is highly flamable) around the carb and intake...if the engine suddenly peps up then you probably have a vacuum leak...

I had a similar problem when I tried switching from a 2 bbl to a 1 bbl...but the problem was wiring and not functionality...they had different distributors than the Ranger and required some wiring to adjust idle speed...my 1 bbl ran great with all kinds of pickup compared to the 2 bbl that I had originally, but it would NOT idle properly...

Aside from that, you might look for adjustments on the carb for the fuel/air mixture or try turning up the idle setting on the throttle if it has one...they should idle between 800 and 1,000 RPMs IIRC and I can't remember if the 1 bbl had any adjustments that could be tweaked...
