I'd tear into it but it's still under factory warranty until August. And on the other hand, I don't really have anything else to complain about yet so I don't want to make an appointment, wait, etc, only to be told that they all do that and go home mad.

Anyway...it's a 2008, 53,000kms. Bare bones, no tilt wheel.

When making a turn, the wheel will drop down a bit (likely not even enough to see) but you can feel it, and it makes an audible 'clunk' when it does it.
It only does it once though, and it's not at a certain spot as it turns. Lots of times i can just put a bit of pressure on it sitting still and it will do it, but then I can't make it do it again.

According to ford.ca, I'm recall free.

Anyone's Ranger do the same thing? Something that was fixed without a lot of frustration at the dealer?

My oval on the tailgate is peeling and the strip of plastic that secures the cloth at the front of the passenger seat won;t stay clipped in, so I'll likely be having those fixed up before warranty's off and will get them to check the clunk at the same time....but I was bored and wanted to see if anyone else had the same clunk.

Thanks! :-)

If its udner warranty just take it in anyways. But I would have a friend look at hte steering column while you make it clunk and try to narrow the problem.

pitman problem

My oval on the tailgate is peeling out so crap item

.......08 rangers don't use pitman arms. it is a steering shaft that goes to the rack and pinion. my buddies does the same thing but his moves 2-3in

I have a 2007 that was doing the same thing. I took it in and they said it was common. They changed the lower steering shaft. ( half an hour ) The new shaft had a teflon ring on it which fit inside the steering column thus not allowing it to clunk. All covered by warranty. Hope this helps.

Excellent info....thanks all.

I'll be making a shopping list of stuff to have looked at just before warranty goes. So far nothing mechanical, just little stuff.

I'll take it in and report the column clunk...if they can't duplicate it at the time, I'll at least have it on file if it gets worse in a few months.

Thanks again!
