Ok the truck is a 2001 4L SOHC V6 Ranger. I currently have a cat back dual exhaust system. I think the flowmaster 50 series delta flow is the muffler I used. The muffler has a nice hole rusted into it and I am going to replace it. However, I do not know the size of the pipe from the catalytic converter. I am pretty sure it is the stock pipe from the converter to the muffler. Is the stock pipe a 2" or 2.5" pipe?

Thanks for the help.

AFAIK, it is 2.25" from the front flange to the muffler.

Your rusted out Flowmaster is why I went with Magnaflow instead. Magnaflow is stainless steel, Flowmaster is aluminumized steel.:icon_thumby:

But magna sounds like ass...

lol.

To answer your question, I have the exact same truck, '01 4.0. Right behind the cat, before the coupler is 2.5". From the coupler back is 2", including after the muffler.

I had the coupler cut out, and welded on a 2.5" 3bolt flange, to get rid of the restriction, then 2.5" from the new flange back to the muffler, and to the tailpipe, and into a 3.5x18 45* slash cut tip.

I've ran a grand total of 6 different mufflers(Dynomax ultra flo oval, magnaflow, flow super 40, glasspack, flow original 40, and flow super44.). Found the Super44 to be the deepest, most powerful sounding off them all.

Thanks all. I am debating on using the 40 series delta flow as a replacement. I have to admit I like the delta 50 because it sounds nice and I do not have a lot of residual noise in the cab driving down the highway (where I do most of my driving).

40 DF is quiet on a 01+ 4.0. Super40 put it to shame in the loudness and the way it sounds department.

50 sounds great, but is just too damn quiet for me. lol.

^^Both those statements are based on my buddy;s 01 that had a 40 DF and my other buddys 03 L2 with a 50 on it.
