pinto engine

this is the same carb i have and the very lowest opening near the front of the carb under the idle mixture screw is where i have that vacuum line hooked up. this is the only thing i can find that would possibly be the right connection point.

It's not critical which side it's on, it just should (in theory) be above the throttle butterfly on the carb body, not below it. There's a million variations of this 5200 carb so it doesn't surprise me that the vacuum ports are set up differently.

Oh, whoa. You've got an Autolite 2100/2150 or Holley 350 2bbl there, it's not a progressive carb like the Holley/Weber 5200. Both butterflies open at the same time. If it's an Autolite there will be numbers cast into the side of the float bowl - should be something like 1.02, 1.08, 1.21, etc. But the bowl on that carb in the picture looks like a Holley to me.

And now I know why you get 10mpg.

great thats what i wanna hear lol. so is there another carb i could put on that will give me some gas mileage back?

Weber DGV (DGEV, DGAV) 32/26 or one of the Holley 5200/Motorcraft copies. The carb in the picture I linked to is a Motorcraft 5200 2bbl. They're under $100 newly rebuilt all over eBay. Can probably find a half dozen in any decent boneyard for $25-30 apiece.

Only a few 5200's came with electric chokes from the factory, most with the Ford throttle linkage are water choke. Get one from a Mustang, Pinto, Fairmont, etc - that way you can take the throttle bracket with it and save yourself some fabrication.

You might need the factory EGR spacer to adapt your manifold to the baseplate of the 5200 carb, which is smaller than the baseplate of what's in your picture. I think there are some aftermarket adapters that will covert a large 2bbl manifold to a 5200 base also.

You'll lose some torque with the 5200 until both barrels open up. It's one of the reasons the gas mileage is better. You're driving on the 32mm barrel until you press the throttle enough to open the 36mm barrel also.

sounds like a plan to me. thanks a lot i'll see what i can find and do a little research on the adapter and what not. thanks, arren.
