Quick question: Is it better to install the pilot bearing in the flywheel prior to bolting the flywheel on the crank. Or, bolt up the flywheel and install the pilot bearing. This in on a 96 Ranger 4.0L, MDO5. My preference would be to install the pilot bearing prior to installing the flywheel (why tap on the crank), but maybe there a reason that I cannot think of.

As long as there is a land on the bottom of the flywheel to keep you from going too far I don't see why it would cause any problems.

Seems to me that the pilot bearing hole is bored all the way through...nothing stopping it. I'd probably do it before installing the flywheel just so I can inspect the back side... but either way works fine.
