Passing AZ Emissions

Hello,

I have a 1987 Ford Ranger engine swapped with a 1980 Ford 302 H.O. Will I be able to get this vehicle to pass emissions in the phoenix area?

It seems like for this model year AZ requires a tail pipe test but also some visual checks for tampering. Seems like I would fail any visual test.

I have also heard about collector's insurance expemting the need for emissions at all. However I doubt the ranger would qualify as it was not limited production?

Collector Car status also means limited mileage each year, need to check what that is

Not all areas in AZ require Smog tests from what I know

In some States you can only swap in same year or newer engine, regardless of size
So 1980 V8 into a 1987 Vehicle would not be allowed
But it would have to meet 1987 emissions levels for that year, as well
Because its not OBD2 there will be visual and other tests required

Just look up the Smog requirements for your State/county
Should be a section on engine swaps or custom vehicles
