I have an explorer 8.8 disc rear end w/3.73 L/S gears in it & come next Friday I'll be getting a Ranger 8.8 L/S w/4.10 gears. What im wondering is some time down the road would I be able to swap the 31 spline diff & axles & the disc brake set onto the Ranger 8.8 rearend?

Nope.

I believe the disc's will bolt up from what I've read, but the axle shafts will not fit. Even if you put the 31 spline carrier on it. They're too long.

I'm assuming you'd prefer the 4.10 gears? - swap the gear set into the explorer 8.8 axle and weld new spring perches and shock mounts as they are on the Ranger axle.

Disc's won't fit either, the mounting flange on the 28 spline 8.8 is smaller than the 31 spline found in the explorer.

Then I guess i'll install the Explorer rearend at a later date down the road. The Ranger 8.8 can be swapped in a few hrs & I would be using my truck the next day ,so the explorer rear will at least be getting new pads & shock brackets welded on over the winter time & painted up nicely Then come spring time i'll install the explorer rear with the 4.10 gears being swapped.

Thanks,Guys
