So my truck has a P0455 (evap emission system leak, large leak) looks like it could be a bad purge canister. I am wondering where this is located. I haven't had a chance to look on my truck yet, I'm at work and wont go to lunch for a few hours now so I'm trying to google it and can't find anything. I have a 1999 3.0 2wd auto trans. Also, in the morning when I first start the truck my oil pressure gauge is not reading at all. will eventually read normal after 5 minutes or sometimes when I give it gas and rev the motor. The motor runs good, has no knocks or odd noises when the oil pressure gauge is working or not working. So it seems like a dummy gauge. Could these two issues be related? Just trying to get some info on this. I've messed with knock sensors before but never a purge canister. Any help would be great.

total wild guess. Loose gas cap. What is the timing of this ? Right after a fill up? If it happened all of a sudden, then look for a small hose under the hood that is loose. The charcoal canister on my '94 4.0 is in the LF by the battery. Generally, look along the fenders under the hood. I would suspect the hoses before the canister. There should be a sticker under the hood with a diagram that will give you clues. I would Google a bit maybe watch a you tube or 2 . :D

yeah a large leak sounds like a hose came off or has deteriorated to the point of not holding its vapors :)

check the lines that hook up to the charcoal canister. I think on your 99 it is on top of the spare tire bracket...

Gas cap fits tight and does not have the click thing like other cars when you have tightened cap all the way. I know cap has a lot of pressure because it takes some muscle to get it off. not a lot of muscle but like a 5 year old wouldn't be able to get it off. lol. I have been googling about the charcoal canister and I haven't had a chance to look yet. was going to try to get it on our lift but seems like there's always a big ass RV on the lift for days at a time. Check engine light has been on for 4-5 months. I figured it was from my exhaust, it broke in the middle at the flange. got it welded back up a while ago and decided to clear the check engine light and got that code. I priced a new purge valve for the canister and screw that. I don't have $30-70 to spend on a maybe fix it repair.
