Anyone ever use a Cooper Roughneck Roadmaster tire? Im looking for them in size 17 to fit on my F150.

I cant find them anywhere anymore

The best thing you can do is go to a tire dealer (Cooper) and ask them. I don't think they make them anymore. I never see any advertisement about them.

From what I heard, they only made this tire for 2 years and quit, it was a try at making truck tires the same as they made semi tires and they made 2 types: Road (Roadmaster), Offroad (Roadmaster Roughneck).

The ones on my ranger had something around 90k on them and they were at a little under 1/2 tread.

When were those two years? That's key. You're not supposed to run tires after they are 7 years old IIRC. The rubber dries out and cracks.

I have no idea how old they are, I just heard they were made for two years from a local shop, and all he knows is he sold the only pair that cooper sent him and the same van came back every 10k miles and it was back with the same tires at least 8 times. I had them put on my ranger since he gave me them for free and I havent been able to find ANYTHING out about them.

I found this (link at the bottom) on them.... look at the dates:

International Class Code(s): 012
US Class Code(s): 019, 021, 023, 031, 035, 044
Primary Class: Vehicles; apparatus for locomotion by land, air, or water.
Class(es) Status: Sec. 8 – Entire Registration
First Use Anywhere: 1/6/1997
First Use In Commerce: 1/6/1997

If they only made them for two years, that means the newest tire you would find would have been made in 1999. A thirteen year old tire is unsafe.

Tires have serial numbers on the back of the tire with the date they were made. Look there for the year your tire was made.

Well, when I gave them to the guy who bought my bronco they were just fine, I wouldnt use them for anything but offroading though, they had some sidewall wear, but those tires were put through a lot before the ranger was parked.

7 years is not always the case, if they were in storage then they can be good a while longer, i got a couple hancook milage pluses with half tread left from 2001, they weren't cracked and were still very flexible, drove 200 miles on them nonstop without issue, if i can find 2 more to make a complete set in the same condition, i wouldn't think twice. a 13 year old tire in good shape will be a challendge forsure, especially once produced for only 2 years... just dont buy any dry rotted bulging cracked junk.

I did a lot of work on a friends J-10 that had the old bias ply's on it still. Including one that had all kinds of ply separation issues, He put 13,000 (Thirteen thousand, not a typo) on those tires before he saved up enough for new ones. Still has one of them for a spare.

Discount tire & Les Scwaub wont touch a tire if its over 10 yrs old.

A tire made from 2000 or newer would have 01-52 followed by 00-12. The meaning is first two digits are the week & last two digits are the year.

If 1999 or older it would only have 3 digits like 028 which would mean 2nd week of 98

True, Bro. No tire shop here will mount a tire that is over 7 years old. It is a law against that for safety reasons...the shop could get fined big time if they did so and plus it could invole a huge lawsuit from the customer if there was an accident involved with mounting an old tire (even if it was never used).

I have a set of 17" General HTs I'll sell you for $100. They have over half tread.

thats not the point, I want them

What is your obsession with these tires that have been out of production for so long?

Those tires were not as good as you think they were. I told you they could get you around for a bit, but I wouldn't' trust them forever.
