? on my 5.0 conversion tranny

i bought a 97 ranger with the 5.0 already done(mostly). it was from a 99 mountaineer. the guy put the complete drivetrain(engine/tranny/rear end) in it and i was wondering if there is a way to take out the transfer case and replace it with a tailshaft(to lose the weight and for extra ground clearance)? if so where would i look to find out what would fit it? thanks!!

Look for the 2 wheel version in a 3.8 Mustang, grab trans and bellhousing.

If the engine, Trans, and rear end are all from the 1999 Mountaineer; find the tailhousing frome an AOD-E (Crown Victoria, Mercury Marquis) and replace the transfercase and AWD tailhousing. You'll need a longer driveshaft. Question- why? is your Ranger 2wd?

Not sure what year for the Mustang but my guess would be 98 and newer. Try a Google for some info or check a local JY, they usually have some great cross-reference books. The C-4 is a good trans but no overdrive and you would cause the computer to throw codes, the later auto's are computer controlled.
