Hello all,

I've noticed that when I exit a highway after driving for a while with a good bit of cargo in the bed, my oil pressure gauge flutters once I come to a stop, such as at a stop sign or intersection. It returns to the normal position once I hit the gas, and get the rpms around 1500. Also, the gauge reads normal after shutting down the engine and re-starting it, even in low rpms.

Has anyone else had this issue? It happens pretty much only during the conditions mentioned above, I figure it could just be the higher oil pressure at higher (2500~3000) rpm causing something in the pressure sending unit to stick, since it goes away once the pressure has been down to 0, and I highly doubt I've got an oil pressure issue, since the valvetrain isn't making any loud tapping noises, just the quiet clicking I figure is normal for an OHV engine. (My las car was a camry, with a DOHC engine).

I would replace the oil pressure switch, it's an on/off switch, turns on above 5psi, off below 5psi
The gauge is either on or off any changes in needle position is voltage related not oil pressure related
Could be switch is just getting old

Oil switch is behind passenger side head on the block, so a bit of a pain to get at, but not that bad

Oil switch is on the right with the white connector

Keep this in mind.... if you were to replace the gauge with a mechanical one, when RPM drops so will the readings of the oil pressure gauge. Low RPM = lower pressure.
