I was a member before when I owned my last ranger but I got a another one and need some help. Its a 94 non EGR ranger with a stick shift. When I got it, the motor was blown up (got it for a great deal so I couldn't pass it up).

I went and put a used motor in from a 93 ranger. Everything bolted up fine and plugged in fine. I put new plugs and wires on it and got it running this weekend.

I have a dead misfire on cylinder # 1 which I think its a bad injector or wiring to the injector. I have great spark coming off the plug on that cylinder and my compression is 150 on that whole head. I cant feel the injector firing like I can on all the other cylinders. I am putting a new injector in it tonight. But I was driving it around yesterday just to make sure everything else was ok as far as overheating, clutch, brakes, etc and found on cold start it runs good (as good as it can with one cylinder not hitting) but as it got warm it would bog down and lack power.

I have done some searching and have seen you guys talk about injectors, fuel pressure, and so on so this is what I found checking over mine;
Fuel pressure while running is 31-32psi
When the truck bogs down fuel pressure goes to 40psi
KOEO fuel pressure is 40psi
I don't have a camshaft synchronizer in this truck and my original engine that came out didn't have one either

When the lack of power comes it will even shut the truck off. Yesterday it even made it so it wouldn't run when hot. It would start up and then die out like the vehicle had no fuel. It would run for maybe 5-8 seconds. I am stumped. I cleaned the throttle body, Mass air flow. I check codes and got a lean code on both banks. Checked for any vacuum leaks and found none. I need to get this truck on the road as soon as possible for hunting season so any help would be appreciated.

I think it is something small but I don't know. Today I am going to check the FPR, check for my power on the injector not working and replace the injector and all new O-rings.

Thank you in advance.

Coolant temp sensor might be out. Sounds like the most likely cause to me.

Also, a fuel injector pulse tester can be made easily from junk yard parts. Got down, find an F-150, Ranger, or Explorer that had that leaking cruise switch recall (everything from about 1992 to 2000. Get the fused jumper harness and one of the plate light sockets. Wire the socket in place of the large female connector on the harness and bingo. That thing will plug into about 90% of Ford fuel injector plugs and let you see if the injector is getting it's signal.

I just drove it from my father in laws house and am getting ready to swap the coolant tempature sensor with the original one and replace the injectors and fuels rail.

I have heard that the cam sync cam out in 94 and some say 96-97, what is the correct one. I dont think that is my problem because both motors have a block off plate installed but I do have the wiring pigtail there for it.

Also it would mess up before and lose power within 5 miles of driving it but on the way home it didnt mess up like it was. Tonight it seemed like at higher RPM's it wanted to fall on its face for a min then pick up like timing if it were a carburated motor. Just trying to say everything incase someone has any other ideas. Appreciate the help though adsm08 and I am going to try that first.
