Hey guys, my alternator just took a dump on me about an hour ago, I managed to get it home thanks to a kind family whose driveway I coasted into. It was exactly 1 mile from home. Jumped the battery and raced home before it could die. I was a little surprised to find the sticker on the alternator was dated 1997. 149 thousand miles on an alternator is pretty dang good.
I took out the old alternator already and need to pick one up first thing in the morning. I've looked online and Autozone and Advance auto both have remanned ones in stock, for $100 after core, napa wants 140 to 600.. A couple years ago I had my first ranger's alt die after getting it wet and it was only 50 after core. Has price really gone up this much in 2 years or is it a location thing?
Anyone have any other ideas of where I can get one a little bit cheaper? Any parts stores you can think of? I dont need any performance alternator just a replacement remanned one.
I doubt picking up a wrecking yard alternator would be worth it, but would anyone recommend it?
