I have a 94 Ranger , 3.0,A4LD. It has 167,000 miles on it . Been running fine until the check engine light came on . I did the paperclip test and I got codes,332 & 538. Low egr pressure would mean what? Also the 538 makes no sense. I need help. Anyone out there,PLEASE!!!!

A good code description chart can be found here:
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/3digitcodes.html

Some places on the net don't have the best descriptions.

332: EGR did not open/respond during test or if memory code, did not open intermittently.

Sounds like it might be a sticky EGR valve. They tend to get plugged with carbon.

538: System did not receive "goose" test.

This code only applies to a KOER test where the throttle pressed far enough or fast enough after the computer flashed its prompt. Note: It can be hard to get it right.

Running fine until CEL came on................

So what does it run like now?

Rough idle or smooth idle and rough at higher RPMs,
or visa versa?

94 Ranger

Update:I ran a vacuum line from the manifold to the egr-nothing happened. Increased vacuum-still nothing. Also ,engine had good vacuum 2 months ago.16-steady n now 14 steady . Need help.........Starting my cat is getting clogged also.

94 Ranger

Cleaned the egr valve yesterday n it works good . I also found a hose the right size on the manifold n I couldn't blow any air in it. It was full of crud. I cleaned it out as best as I could . Is that clogged also? Am I supposed to be able to blow air in it? About ready to pull the upper half intake off to really clean it out . Also , After I cleaned all this , I took it out n ran good for a while then the cel came on. HELP PLEASE

The truck is still running the same . Lousy CEL ON. Cleaned the egr , works good , the tube is clear, the intake port was clogged as I had stated and I cleaned the crap out of it . Tried running a small hose in ,but it stops . Is it supposed to go into the intake . Tried blowing air into the intake and can't . Is that my problem ?About ready to get a dremel n run a wire brush all the way into the intake .
