Installed new stereo in 95 Ranger used wiring plug kit. Head unit works but no sound coming out of speakers? Speakers worked before install with stock head unit with cassette.

Pull the stereo and found that the speaker wire plug does not lock in the slot like it should, and had pulled out. Plugged it in and everything is working. Now if it will stay plugged in? Might have to tape it to hold it in.

Tape could work but over time tape seems to loosen and lose its grip. A dab of hot glue on each side of the connector will also work and be removable if you need to ever separate them and will not leave a stick residue. Ideally a quality kit would of been the best option but your idea of taping will also work. Run the tape between the wires and around both ends of the plug wrapping a few times will be sufficient.
