Hello,

I would like to say that I am new here first of all, and have been reading through and been getting a lot of great information. I just recently purchased a 1994 ranger xlt 4x4 4.0. It's got a lot of miles on it and needs a little TLC but that's ok. Anyhow the one thing that i really didn't notice right away, and kinda thing i should of, was when I picked up the truck and drove it home, which was about 30 miles on the highway. I noticed that the oil pressure gauge was on the low end and then normal, a bit erratic basically. Then when i got about a 1/2 mile from my house i noticed it started to bog down a bit and the CEL flashed for a second and went away. Any clues as to what may be causing this? Also what are other things that I should look for? There is a lifter noise also that comes and goes on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I am not afraid of getting my hands dirty.

I'd recommend oil change first off and see if that improves things. Also get a can of RESTORE, I used it and I liked it, it sounds like it'll work even better for you. Also I'd recommend changing all filters and spark plugs. Might as well, then you know when its been done last

low oil psi "generally speaking" if it is the normal range you are good since Ford does not put actual numbers on gage. you might install a mechanical o.p. gage to verify what gage is showing. The bogging down part complete tune up plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter, oil and filter. then change tranny fluid and filter, check differential fluid level (4x4 both). anytime i buy used i do these things. also look at belts and hoses and look for leaks. Good Luck! almost forgot coolant level and condition!!!!

Thanks a lot for the advice guys just went to autozone.com and purchased new fuel filter, air filter, plugs, wires, and a can of engine restorer. I'm really looking forward to working on this great little truck.

bogging also you could clean youe intake with combustion chamber cleaner instructions in tec libiary and clean your mass air flow sensor with mas air flow cleaner. All worked well for me.
