i got a 92 ranger to swap axles with...dana 35 front with 410 gears...just right for me right now even though the rear is a 7.5. the front is easy,just swap them. the rear(which i thought was going to be the easy one)it turns out, is a little narrower. i could live with this for now till i get an 8.8 exp rear down the road. the other issue is that the spring perches are a little narrower too! this add more problems to what i thought was going to be an easy swap. i need the gears...i already bought the axles. two options that i see... 1 move the spring perches in a little(this will suck since its only a little) 2 change out the carrier and pinion(did a dana 30 a long time ago), anyone have any input???

I swapped an stx ranger rear into my b-2 and had the same problem. I ended up welding on a plate and drilling a hole thru the perch to allow the u-bolt to sit beside the spring.;

I think if I was to do it again I wouldn't worry about the plate, just drill the holes. Look at posts 10 and 15 in my b-2 thread;

Your rear is a 4.10 as well? You really should not run different gears. That could cause issue. Go to a scrapyard and look at the rear ends from a few different trucks and that way you can meassure the one you want before you buy it. Look for one with a 4.10 in it. You will be happy you did...less money to spend on buying another gear and having to put it in.

i think i confused you...im wanting to swap both 410 axles into my b2....i have a 7.5 in it with 356s and the one im wanting to swap has 410s as well as the dana 35 front

cool....thanks for the info!...i may do this as a temporary fix. i really dont want to switch the gears or pay someone to do it. is the rear noticeably narrower??

Anyone shed some light on swapping gears?

The stx rear was narrower by about 2". When flexing the tires would rub on the inner fender. The spring perches were also inset by 2" total. You better check the length before doing a bunch of work.

Hmmm....I really dont want to swap gears though....does it look funny? Does it rub really bad?

You could use spacers if needed.
