Need quick help finding out which rear end my truck has.

I have a 2003 ford ranger xlt 2.3L 5-speed with 199,909 thousand miles on it. Back in 2008 the truck was wrecked and they had to end up replacing the rear end with one from a salvage yard. I went yesterday to replace my rear brakes as they were almost completely wore out and to my surprise hardly anything I got from the parts house is right and no pictures I can find of my brake setup looks like my actual truck...... Im needing to find out what year the rear end that's in my truck now came out of if that's even possible. I have the tag and it reads as follows....

I called the local dealer and they said there was no way to tell from a tag what year the rear end was but I need to know so I can get the correct parts for my drum brakes and get the rear end put back together as it's been down now for 2 days any and all help is greatly appreciated.

That doesn't work after a certain year.


From the first part of the post, up to the word "with" I can tell you that you have a 7.5 rear.

The tag numbers you posted say it's a 7.5" axle, 3.73 gears, open rear end.

If nothing fits it is a good bed that you got 9" brake parts by looking it up as a 2003. By 2008 I am pretty sure they were all 10". When you start swapping years like that you need to look up parts by the year of the donor vehicle, not the one you are working on.
