Any more clues?

Looks oily
Is it found in the engine?
Transmission?
Axles?

Very similar to a Muffler Bearing I just removed, LOL, joking.

Looks like part of a Valve train but..............maybe oil pump assembly

Good thread here with pictures of 4.0l SOHC disassembly: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=316471

Yeah, that looks for all the world like a rocker shaft assembly, but the 2002 should be SOHC, which wouldn't have those. More angles would be helpful.

Also, where are you that you have a Super Crew (full 4 door) Ranger?

Hi bud, the truck is my dad's, he's in Venezuela, South America. Full 4 door in deed.
I have another picture to show you, to see if you can help me with.
The part is located in the engine.

You(he) have a 4.0l OHV engine with push rods and a rocker assembly.
In US/Canada the Ranger got 4.0l SOHC from 2001 and up, thats why the confusion.

First picture is the end of one bank's rocker assembly.

Complete assembly for both banks seen here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PAIR-OF-ROC...ash=item542413cce6:g:yVgAAOSwNSxVZxPj&vxp=mtr

He needs to replace the whole assembly on that side(bank) but the concern would also be why did it break to begin with??
Did the timing chain break or a hydro lock, i.e. valve couldn't be opened but rocker just kept pushing and broke.

Thank you Ron!
You had been really helpful. Now we know what motor/engine we have.
I'll let you know how this case ends.
Thanks again!

From the looks of the one in the OP..the valve end appears to have been repaired/welded. Chances are someone tried to resurface the worn tip and caused more harm than good.

The way it once was here.

At one time we had mechanics here that would REPAIR an engine or anything on a vehicle to get it back to work.
In less developed countries the mechanics might STILL use what natural engineering ability they have to at LEAST attempt to get a vehicle back into service.
I betcha you are correct about the previous repair. Another bet I would make is the Father sent this picture to his son and the son will purchase the part and MAIL it to the Father. That's why the picture appeared on here as the son has to get one of these for his Dad.
Good boy! We will help as much as possible.
