Hey guys,

so once again I am having issues with my truck. It is now beginning not to start. It has something to do with the fuel pump or fuel system. As I put it in the ON position I am not hearing the fuel pump turn on. I cycle the key on and off a few times and then I hear it prime and it starts. I checked the relay and swapped relays and it still did not fix it. All my gauges and lights work in the dash so I don't think it is the ignition switch. I am leaning towards it being a dying fuel pump. Anyone had any similar issues?? Before spending 435 on replacing it, I would like to get feedback first.
Thanks fellas.

Try replaceing your crank position sensor,it is easy to get to on the front of the engine on the passenger side near the front crank hub and they only cost about $20.00. I was having exactly the same issues that you are having and chased my tail for six months before I figured it out.I changed my fuel pump and everything was fine for four months and then one morning it would Not start but would just spin over and over and never try to start the same way it was before I changed out the fuel pump assembly. Then the next day it would start right up like there was never a problem,so I did some reading on line and I figured I would try the crank postion sensor and it has been well over a year and I have Not had a single problem out of my truck as far as starting goes. Hope this helps.

I would start by hitting the gas tank when it doesn't work.Next check the voltage at the pump source and ground.

Is it a bolt on bolt off kinda of thing, or does the truck need to be timed after replacing?

Crank sensor won't cause fuel pump not to come on with the key.
Fuel pump will still run for 2 seconds when computer starts up.

Bad or failing crank sensor will cause a no start because fuel injectors and spark will not come on since computer doesn't see crank turning, no pulse from crank sensor, these usually fail completely so not intermittent, and they don't fail often.

Yes, it is most likely a failing fuel pump.

The inertia switch is in the passenger foot well or kick panel, it is small, 2x2, with a button on the top and 2 terminals, you can hook a test light up to either terminal and a ground to see if Fuel pump is getting power from the fuel pump relay(for 2 seconds) but not coming on.

Power path is
Battery--------Fuel Pump fuse-----FP relay-------------inertia switch-----------fuel pump----ground

Once fuel pump is on it will usually stay on, but..........if it is failing it may leave you stranded one day

Fuel Pump is my guess. Put a fuel pressure tester on it to make sure. Like Ron said, each time you turn the key the fuel pump relay jolts it with 12 volts and eventually it starts running. Until the day it does not!

Well it was the pump. Changed it and she is back and running... For now :)

Good Work :icon_thumby:

Thanks for the update and fix info :)
