need help making a decision

so i have been trying to find a donor vehicle for my 85 ranger and i think i found one. its a 91 explorer 4x4 manual 4.0L 145k miles. As my research as pointed me to this has the mazda Md50 5 speed. it has nice wheels with 33in tires with decent tread left. I can basically take all of the drive train and power train and some interior components. the downside is i havent heard it run. the owner of the tow yard said he did drive it. asking $1000 for it. not sure if its worth it... any help would be appreciated. THANKS!!!

Always drive and inspect before you buy. Crawl under it to check for leaks and to make sure parts are there. That's not too bad of a price IMO. Not too sure how easy it would be to convert your truck to the 4.0 setup but the axles would be a nice upgrade for your 85. Offer him 6, 700 dollars and see what he says, may be able to get it cheaper...Also, make sure it has a title. In the event you want to scrap it, most scrap yards require a title with vehicles before they'll take them.

How many miles? Also does it tick when it runs... Be ready to replace rockers and push rods. 4.0 eats them for breakfast.
