Hello! Thanks for looking at my Post!

I am having issues starting my 1999 XLT 3.0 Ford Ranger. This blue thing broke off and I have to move it around until I hear the constant "Dinging" when the door is open.

The metal prong extending from the Blue Transponder also broke off and can no longer clip inside.

I had to tape it to the colum area...the tape does not work long term. Also have to move the one black wire around alot to find good conenction as if it seems to lack constant continuity.

Now I am lookng what to do to either 1.) Just bypass this blue thing all together if possible or 2.) Advice on how to fix it in its current condition.

Getting mixed signals from internet and video of how to handle this. I am not a mechanic; just a guy with an old truck.

Thanks for your support.

That is just a "Key in Ignition" switch, not PATS related

Inside the key cylinder's hole is a metal tab that is grounded when key in inside the cylinder
No Ground and no "dinging" when drivers door is opened

For now you can just tape the broken piece of to the side so it can't touch any metal to "Ground out"

Many just cut the black wire because they hated the "dinging", lol

You can see the blue part with the black wire, if black wire is grounded then you will have "dinging" if drivers door is opened

The Black part with the white label is the transceiver, it is part of the PATS system, it is an antenna that reads a PATS key when ignition is first turned on

Thanks for the information. I think I am somewhat starting to get it....So, can I just cut off the blue thing and trim the black wire and tape it? I think the black wire leading to the blue thing might be getting lose as I have to move it alot now to get a "Ding" to even start the truck anymore....maybe a continuity issue further back in the black wire maybe....?

Thanks for the reply; my power animal is a turtle.....

That blue thing has nothing to do with starting the truck.

If you have to move it to get the truck to start, you must be moving something else at the same time farther back in the wiring.

Ok, I see. so the one black wire leading to the blue thing is just losing continuity somewhere in the line until i find the "Sweet Spot" to start the truck then just loses its connection again along the way and I do it all over.....Ok. So, from here my question would be if i have to get a professional to help me fix that wire should I get a Mechanic, Locksmith or electrician? The black wire goes into a system of wires and just loses its identity for me so I would need more competent help to permanently fix this, I think.

Thanks for the time and advice it is appreciated!

NO, that black wire is NOT needed and has nothing to do with you being able to start your truck.

When you are moving the black wire you must be moving another wire nearby.
